MENA Newswire News Desk: Dubai, 26th September 2024 – The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) is set to host the inaugural Dubai Diamond Week from November 11th to 15th, marking the first global gathering of the diamond industry in Dubai. The event will bring together three major industry activities: DMCC’s Dubai Diamond Conference (DDC), the Kimberley Process (KP) Plenary Session, and the Jewellery, Gem & Technology Dubai (JGT Dubai) trade show.

The Dubai Diamond Conference, which kicks off on November 11th, will focus on the theme “Thriving Under Pressure: Navigating the New Global Paradigms.” Industry experts and leaders will address critical challenges facing the diamond sector, such as supply chain pressures due to global economic and geopolitical uncertainties. Discussions will also highlight new regulatory and compliance standards with a focus on transparency and traceability across the supply chain, as well as strategies for stimulating demand through generic promotion.

Keynote speakers include Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and Al Cook, CEO of De Beers Group. Three expert panels will explore both immediate and long-term pressures on the industry, along with lessons from other sectors on navigating traceability mandates and evolving regulatory frameworks. The DDC will conclude with a discussion on strategies to drive sustainable change in the diamond industry.

Following the conference, the JGT Dubai trade show will take place from November 12th to 14th. Launched in 2022, JGT Dubai has quickly established itself as a key event on the global gem and jewelry calendar, offering a major B2B sourcing platform. This year’s edition will bring together gemstone dealers, jewelry manufacturers, and tech solution providers for three days of networking, exhibitions, and trading.

The UN-led Kimberley Process (KP) Plenary Session will wrap up Dubai Diamond Week, running from November 12th to 15th. DMCC’s Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Ahmed Bin Sulayem, will represent the UAE in his second term as Chair of the KP in 2024. This session will focus on the progress made during the UAE’s “Year of Delivery” initiative and the adoption of key decisions aimed at preventing the trade of conflict diamonds and regulating the global diamond market.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem commented, “With the UAE’s diamond trade volumes growing by 12 percent year-on-year, reaching nearly 120 million carats in the first half of 2024, Dubai is cementing its position as the largest diamond trading hub in the world. Dubai Diamond Week will serve as a platform for bold conversations and collaboration, shaping the future of the global diamond industry. We look forward to welcoming industry and government leaders as we chart a path toward sustainable growth.”

Now in its sixth edition, the Dubai Diamond Conference has become a key event for the diamond industry, bringing together stakeholders from mining companies to retailers. DMCC also operates the Dubai Diamond Exchange, the largest diamond tender facility in the world, home to over 1,300 diamond companies.
